Variations in the Equatorial Ionospheric F Region Current during the 2022 Tonga Volcanic Eruption

چکیده
In this work, the temporal variations in ionospheric F region current (FRC) during 2022 volcanic eruption Tonga are reported for first time. The FRC increased and underwent several polarity reversals following eruption, as observed by dual Swarm satellites. By combining neutral wind observations derived from Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) satellite, we attempt to reveal potential physical mechanisms responsible these variations. ICON satellites were located at almost same distance epicenter of wave, thus providing a good opportunity analyzing coordinated observations. F-layer data reflect eastward westward fluctuations that basically consistent with identified FRC. E-layer also exhibits affect equatorial ionosphere electron density anomaly. These results show atmospheric caused analyzed affected pattern distribution E-F region, further affecting spatial layer.

The equatorial ionospheric irregularities have been observed in the past few years by different techniques (e.g. ground-based radar, digisonde, GPS, optical instruments, in situ satellite and rocket instrumentation), and its time evolution and propagation characteristics can be used to study important aspects of ionospheric dynamics and thermosphere-ionosphere coupling. At present, one of the m...

Characteristics of the ionospheric total electron content of the equatorial ionization anomaly in the Asian-Australian region during 1996–2004
Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) of the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA) is studied by analyzing dual-frequency signals of the Global Position System (GPS) acquired from a network of receivers around the AsianAustralian region during 1996–2004. The latitude, occurrence time, strength of the most developed EIA crest, and crest-to-trough ratio (CTR) for both the noon and post-sunset se...
متن کاملIonospheric F-region storms: unsolved problems
Befitting the venue of this meeting, we first investigate the polar ionosphere. The most pressing problem here is that no reliable description of this region is available, not even for undisturbed conditions. To improve on this situation we have investigated the properties of some of the more prominent anomalies observed in this region, including the heating effect below the magnetospheric cusp...
